Heart of Darkness thesis help?

This is for AP English LiteratureHere's the prompt: Critic Roland Barthes has said, "Literature is the question minus the answer." Chose a novel or play and, considering Barthes’ observation, write an essay in which you analyze a central question the work raises and the extent to which it offers any answers. Explain how the author’s treatment of this question affects your understanding of the work as a whole. Avoid mere plot summary. My thesis:In Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad presents us with two breeds of savagery: the barbaric nature of the Congolese natives and the brutal oppressiveness of European imperialism, asking which of the two is the greater evil. Although Conrad remains ambivalent throughout the course of the novel, the mere fact that he poses this question is in and of itself a condemnation of imperialism, for unlike tribal nature, imperialism attempts to justify its savagery. Thoughts, improvements?

I love it, and most importantly, it is arguable (the test of any good thesis). So, I just have one question. When you state “imperialism attempts to justify its savagery”, is that your opinion or Conrad’s? It will be particularly persuasive if you can attribute it to Conrad and if you include evidences of this (quotes) within the body of your essay. I can see how you would be able to make that argument, even if it was just a brief psychoanalytic glimpse at the imperialists fights to maintain sanity.
