If I put a famous quote that someone said in my essay do I cite the website that I found it in or…?

If I put a famous quote that someone said in my essay do I cite the website that I found it in or just the person who said it. Before my essay actually starts I am putting the following in italics: "Next to God we are indebted to women, first for life itself, and then for making it worth living." –Mary McLeod Bethuneand then my essay starts. Is it ok to leave it like that or do I need to put the website that I found it from in the bibliography?

It’s probably okay to leave it like that as many different books and websites have probably used that quote, and unless the person reading your essay reads this question on yahoo answers and recognizes your name, then he or she has no way of knowing whether or not you recited it from memory. Giving credit to the speaker is proficient enough.

It’s fine to leave it like that. You don’t need to put the website =]. You already cited who made the quote.

How formal is this essay? You should mention the person as you did above and if you are writing a bibliography, you have to make this reference. If it’s a fairly casual paper with no other references, I would skip the bibliography. If it’s casual but you have others, use guidelines for MLA citation. If you are trying to make a strong point, use APA, probably in-text citation style.
